Wayne Rainey Wins Altpick Award for
NEW YORK, New York—January 23, 2004—Wayne Rainey’s photograph “Sloane” was awarded top honors at the first annual Altpick Awards, receiving third place in the photography category and edging out entries from thousands of national and international photographers. The image, originally shot for the 2004 Aug/Sept cover of Shade Magazine features Phoenix’s own audio and visual artist Sloane McFarland.
"I was thrilled!" says Rainey. "Sloane is an amazing talent, and the portrait came out exactly how I envisioned it. It was an honor to have my work recognized by the judges."
"Sloane" is part of a series Rainey is working on featuring artists in the Phoenix Metro area. Other notables in the series include architect Paolo Soleri, sculptor Pete Deise, and controversial architect-turned-artist Bill Tonnesson.
